Our Story
The idea for Gumbitz was born out of my own frustration at my local rural preschool. Every day, the gumboots lined up outside looked the same and my son’s gumboots were constantly getting mixed up with everyone else’s.
That simple problem sparked a simple solution. With the endless patience and support of my husband, Tim, I was able to bring Gumbitz to life. We love having a product that helps kids instantly spot their own things in a sea of lookalikes, especially before they can confidently read their name.
What started as a way to save time, sanity, and a few tears at preschool has grown into something I could never have anticipated. Gumbitz now help families across New Zealand keep track of their kids’ gumboots, drink bottles, and lunch boxes and turn everyday items into something personal, practical, and fun.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I attach the Gumbitz?
Clean surface thoroughly, and let it dry completely. We have found a small amount of rubbing alcohol/isopropyl alcohol (or even hand sanitiser) extra effective at removing any remaining dirt, grease, or grime. Gumbitz adhesive won't stick to a dirty or wet surface.
Remove the backing film and place the Gumbitz on your chosen surface pressing as firmly as possible. Once applied, it's VERY important that you leave your Gumbitz to set for 24 hours.
For gumboots, please apply to the uppermost and flattest part of the boot. Please also clean a brand new boot! New boots often have manufacturing oils, release agents, or dust on the surface from production or packaging.
What materials do Gumbit stick to?
Gumbitz stick to most flat, smooth surfaces. The exception being silicone, 3M does not stick to silicone for long periods of time.
The edges on the stickers look lifted?
Don’t worry, that’s totally normal! The adhesive on each Gumbitz stops about 0.8mm from the edge, which means the very outer rim might look slightly lifted. This helps keep the stickers flexible and easy to apply while still sticking firmly where it counts.
How long should the stay on for?
It all depends on the wear and tear and whether they’ve been applied correctly (i.e not on a dirty boot!), whether they’ve boots have been stored outside or inside, whether your kids like to pick at them! But we would expect them to stay on for a few months at the very least. We've got Gumbitz that are still holding strong after a year, so it all really depends.
Moisture, UV exposure and heat will degrade the adhesive strength over time. We're all about hand-me-downs and wanted a non-permanent option to avoid compromising the integrity of the gumboot. You’ll be able to peel off your Gumbitz once your child grows out of their gumboots and hand them down to younger siblings, cousins and friends without a trace.
For lunchboxes and drink bottles, handwash carefully for best results. If washing in the dishwasher, please only use the top shelf!
Will my child be able to peel them off?
Yes, most kids can remove them. We're using one of strongest (if not the strongest) adhesive tape on the market. If applied correctly, it should be pretty tricky for a child to remove them, but we know how determined kids are.
How do I remove them?
Gumbitz are designed to be removed! Simply peel off, or if they're particularly stubborn, apply heat to the Gumbitz and then peel off. Hot water and hairdryers work well!

We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you’re not completely happy with your Gumbitz, we’ll refund you for the products. Unfortunately, we’re unable to refund shipping costs.
Are there any age restrictions?
Our products are small and because of that could be a choking risk. For that reason, they are not suitable for children under 36 months.
